7th of August Update

Written by: Samantha Liauw, Kumasi Co-Ordinator / Volunteer

Last week, Light for Children completed “The Journey of Hope” activity with the four classes of the J.S.S. 1 and 2 levels. In total, about 200 children ages 12 and 13 participated in this interactive presentation. The objectives of the sessions were to give information about HIV and how to adopt good behavioral practices so the students could focus on their education and future goals.

The presentations could not have been successful without the continued support of the Methodist School teaching staff and especially the Girl Child Education Coordinator. In addition to the presentations, two female students, identified as sexual abuse victims, were interview by LIFOC staff.

After assessing the situation, LIFOC plans to bring the children to seek medical attention and give counseling to the girls and their families. This is a part of LIFOC’s continued effort to provide counseling and support for child sexual abuse victims identified in Kumasi.
