Light for Children July Report
Written and prepared by Mike Owusu, Programme
coordinator (inlawp5@yahoo.com), And Sebastian

School presentations
We finished our activities at Nyankyerenease Methodist School
as we worked on their given assignments and made a poster for
each class out of them, which was left at the school for the
children to have a reminder of our visit.
We also chose the best children’s works and handed out prizes
to the winners, as well as we returned their works to them,
so that every student in class could have a look at them.
We are now moving on to the next school. However,
as most students are now taking their exams and
going on vacation afterward, it could take some time
until we make the next school visits.
Cooperation with US High School
As we received the profiles of the 40 students from Kumasi Academy,
we typed them and forwarded them to the US High School. As soon
as they will have finished reading them and found a partner for
each student, we are confident that communication between the
schools will start in September.
Monthly socialization meeting
The monthly meeting of the HIV positive care and support group
took place at the Center for National Cultural Centre of Kumasi on
the 19th of July, 2008 at 9:30a.m. Most of the children and their
caregivers were present and participated actively. After checking
on the children’s condition, the Light for Children volunteers
Sara Glazer and Christian Monteith, as well as visiting volunteer
Andre Terra, went to the playground of the park to play with
the children, while the parents were given advice on proper
nutrition and other helpful things.
Introduction of new school presentation
We worked out a new school presentation that is focusing on the sexual
assault of children. It is based on some info material we got from
Canada. It’s main purpose to strengthen the children’s awareness
of their responsibility for their body and to feel confident to
prevent others from touching or doing any other things with
them which they don’t want them to. The presentation should
be first used when we go to the next school and then used
next to the “Journey of Hope” presentation, as it targets
the same group of children.
Last month new introduced child Junior was also present again.
The meeting ended after the traditional joint lunch and the
handing out of this month’s medication and food supply at
around 3:00p.m.
